Welcome To The Ballard County Chamber of Commerce

Welcome to the Ballard County Chamber of Commerce.  Ballard County, Kentucky is known as the location where the Ohio River meets the Mississippi River creating a wonderful and unique landscape in which to live, work and play.  You have traveled about as far west in Kentucky as you can go.  Join us in following the footsteps of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark before they left on their epic journey west and other intrepid adventurers who traveled and settled here.

Ballard County is home to a diverse business community ranging from manufacturing and the maritime industry to agricultural and tourism.  We are centrally located to several major interstates that connects us with St. Louis to the north, Memphis to the south, Nashville to the southeast and Louisville to the northeast.  Of course, the Ohio and the Mississippi River expands our reach to the north, south, east and west through the river industry.

Ballard County is shaped by the Ohio River to the North creating a wildlife refuge that has attracted hunters and fishermen for literally thousands of years beginning with prehistoric Native Americans.  You can visit the archaeological site at Wickliffe mounds State Historic Site in Wickliffe.  Today, commercial and sports fishermen troll the waters of the Ohio and Mississippi along with other outdoor water enthusiasts.    Hunters enjoy abundant opportunities to hunt deer, geese, ducks, and turkey to name just some of the plentiful wildlife that roam the countryside. We are proud to say that Ballard County is home to one of the first fish processing plants,Two Rivers Fisheries, to focus on the Asian Carp that inhabits our rivers.    They are providing jobs to the area not only in their plant but to local commercial fishermen while reducing and invasive species.

To the west is the mighty Mississippi River carving bluffs along the way and past wetlands as it rolls south to the Gulf of Mexico carrying barges loaded with grain from our fields along with coal and lumber and other products produced in Western Kentucky.    The Port of Wickliffe is at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and is home to a number of maritime operations such as James Marine, Inc.

Ballard County has four main towns along with a number of smaller communities.    Barlow, Kevil, La Center and Wickliffe are the largest. Our other communities are Slater, Ross Crossing, Ingleside, Needmore, Turner Landing, Winford, Magee Springs, Blandville, Oscar, Bandana, Monkey’s Eyebrow, Lovelaceville, Gage and New York.

The main highways running through Ballard County are US 60, US 62 and US 51.    These will connect you to Interstate 24, Interstate 57 and Interstate 55 and will connect you to all points north, south, east and west. Our proximity to inter-state transportation places us in an ideal location for businesses and families. You get the best of both worlds.    Home town living with access to major metropolitan venues only hours away.

Our history is rich and our future is unlimited. Please explore our website and then come explore in person the place we call home. Find out why Ballard County is a great place to build a business and a great place to live or visit.
